Abstract

Shari’ah Registers are one of the primary sources that referenced by Ottoman Historians. These
sources that explain ottoman social structure with administration, law,religion, culture and socioeconomic policy have been recorded by ecclesiastic courts. Spreading from the first half of the
XV. Century to the end of XIX century kadi registers, which spread over a period of approximately
five hundred years until the end of the century, also shed light on the history of the city of the
relevant period by containing rich information and documents about to the mentioned areas of
Ottoman History. These are important books, in which featured documents are recorded, related to the administrative,
economic, judicial, culture, architectural and social structure of a city and also in the context of
diplomatic correspondence made between the center and the rural. After the city Niğde came under
the domination of Ottoman Empire there had been a great change in the city life. With this great
change The Shari’an Registers started to be kept in Niğde. There are 16 Shari’ah Registery for
Niğde. The aim of this study is to promote the Niğde Shari’ah Registery numbered 3 and (H. 1314-
1316 / M.1896-1899) all belong to the Arabsun district and to examine the sociali economic and
cultural structure of the region through court records.
