Abstract

Cemil Kavukçu is one of the important writers in Turkish short story after 1980. Kavukçu has
written eleven books for children as well as short story books for adults. Selo'nun Kuşları is the first
children's book of Cemil Kavukçu. However, the writer chose the stories he thought the children
would like from the stories he had written for adults before and compiled it into a short story book.
The aim of this study is to examine Cemil Kavukçu's work called Selo'nun Kuşları in terms of
subject, message, characters, language and expression features, which are the basic elements of
children's literature. In this direction, document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods,
was used in the study. The objects of study is the stories in Kavukçu's story book Selo'nun Kuşları.
Information about Cemil Kavukçu, children's literature and basic elements of children's literature
was obtained from literature review. . As a result, it has been found that the stories that make up
Selo'nun Kuşları were not written for child readers when they were first written, but they are still
suitable for evaluation in terms of the basic elements of children's literature.
