The aim of this study is to examine the impact of local festivals on tourism development and sustainability based on participant opinions. A qualitative research method was employed, and data was collected from 16 participants through a semi-structured interview form. The findings indicate that, according to participant perceptions, festivals make significant contributions to destination promotion, attracting tourists to their regions, and regional development. The majority of participants stated that festivals are effective in promoting local culture, increasing tourist appeal, and fostering economic activity. However, when evaluated from a sustainability perspective, it was determined that insufficient attention is paid to environmentally friendly practices. Consequently, it is demonstrated that festivals, in addition to their touristic and economic contributions, should be conducted with an awareness of environmental responsibility. The study emphasizes the need for local governments and festival organizers to plan according to sustainability principles. Furthermore, it is recommended that festivals be considered not only as promotional activities but also as tools for sustainable tourism.
