Intrinsic and extrinsic motivations, which are considered the driving force behind learning, are one of the fundamental reasons why individuals demonstrate a determined and consistent attitude toward continuing their education. The aim of this study is to determine the intrinsic and extrinsic motivations that drive individuals who continue and graduate from three or more higher education programs, a journey that can be described as lifelong education with a diploma. In this study, 90 news articles published in online media between 2009 and 2025 were analyzed using content analysis. News articles featuring individuals who attending and graduating from three or more higher education programs were examined under four main headings. These are: headlines related to the news, news personalities, programs attended/completed, and internal and external motivations. The findings indicate that individuals' intrinsic motivations (the desire for continuous learning, self-improvement, achieving dreams and goals, and overcoming challenges) are more dominant than their extrinsic motivations (setting an example for others, acquiring or changing professions, earning a diploma/certificate, and gaining recognition and respect). The results reveal that lifelong learning is important not only for professional advancement but also for personal development, social contribution, and subjective satisfaction. In Turkey, in addition to face-to-face programs and open and distance education programs, second university applications also support individuals' educational journeys and diversify lifelong learning opportunities.
