Abstract

With the rapid advancement of digital technologies today, the concept of space is no longer defined solely within physical boundaries; rather, it is diversified through examples produced via films, games, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and artificial intelligence-supported digital platforms. As a multidisciplinary field interacting with numerous branches of art and science, interior architecture has also established a strong connection with technology. Fictional spaces, which function as both carriers and producers of digital reality perception, have become significant design tools that guide user experience, transform perception, and offer alternative realities. In addition to the design of these spaces, the design of the characters inhabiting them also plays a crucial role in embodying the identity intended by the creator. Synthetic characters, in this context, emerge as engaging technocentric elements that align with these spaces and present them to the audience through a vision of the future.

Within the scope of this study, the relationship between fictional space production and digital reality has been examined through cinematic works, and the role and impact of synthetic characters within this context have been analyzed. The selected examples were chosen randomly from recent productions that have attracted considerable attention, and qualitative research methods were employed.

The findings indicate that fictional spaces, when combined with digital reality technologies, provide users with multi-layered and interactive experiences. Within this interaction, synthetic characters contribute to the formation of a futuristic perspective. The results reveal that the discipline of interior architecture is moving beyond the traditional understanding of space towards experience-oriented, hybrid, chaotic, multidimensional, and kinetic spatial design. The current role of synthetic characters within fictional spaces suggests that their presence will extend into the relationship between physical space and synthetic characters in the future. Consequently, the study argues that fictional space and digital reality perception can contribute to the development of new design approaches in interior architecture, while also advancing both the theoretical framework and practical applications of the discipline.
